5 Skin Care Tips That Most People Forget to Follow

We all know that we should take care of our skin, but sometimes it’s easy to forget the little things that make a big difference. Here are five skin care tips that most people ignore – but which can really help to improve your skin’s health.

1. Exfoliate your skin regularly (but don’t overdo it)

If you want to have healthy and glowing skin, exfoliation is a must. This process removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, revealing the new and fresh skin underneath. There are two ways to exfoliate your skin – manually or chemically.

Manual exfoliation includes using a scrub or brush to slough off dead skin cells, while chemical exfoliation uses ingredients like glycolic acid or lactic acid to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells. Based on your skin type, choose whatever works best for you.

Exfoliate once a week and make it an essential part of your skin care routine, but do speak to your dermatologist if you have acne, other skin conditions, or extremely sensitive skin.

2. Shower using clean, soft, and filtered water

Most people don’t realize that the water they use to shower can also massively affect their skin. That’s right, a number of skin and hair issues — such as allergies, rashes, acne, and dandruff — are caused by dirty and/or hard water.

Hard water can cause a range of skin issues because of how it gets deposited on the surface of the skin. Additionally, impurities in water, such as chlorine, dirt, and heavy metals, can further irritate and damage the skin. Thus, it’s important to wash yourself only using soft and clean water.

If you live in an area with hard water or poor quality water, consider a water filtering and water softening shower head like the StoneStream EcoPower. This shower head has mineral beads that efficiently filter and soften water, making it healthy for your skin. Additionally, StoneStream also manufactures a Universal Shower Hard Water Filter which uses a 15-step filtration process to get rid of all unwanted elements from your shower water.

Start showing with clean and soft water and see the difference it makes — you’ll soon be saying hello to glowing skin and shiny hair.

3. Avoid hot showers

Since we’re on the topic of showers, here’s another skin care tip related to the bathroom that most people refuse to think about. Hot showers might feel awesome but they aren’t great for your skin! If the water is too hot, it can strip away the natural oils from your skin, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. It’s important to use lukewarm water instead and avoid scrubbing your skin too harshly.

In short, avoid frequent hot showers if you want to attain and maintain healthy skin.

4. Always do a patch test before trying out a new product

If you have sensitive skin, this skin care tip is crucial. A patch test is when you apply a small amount of a new product to an inconspicuous area of your skin, such as the inside of your elbow, to see if you have any adverse reaction. This is important because many store-bought products contain harsh chemicals and other irritating ingredients that can cause skin problems like rashes, acne, and inflammation. However, the truth is that any ingredient can cause an allergic reaction if you are allergic to it!

So, don’t be lazy and always do a patch test before making a product a part of your regular skin care routine. It’s one of the most important ways to ensure healthy skin!

5. Sleep on your back, if possible

If you want to avoid wrinkles, fine lines, and breakouts, it’s important to sleep on your back. This position allows your head to rest evenly and keeps your face away from the pillow.

Additionally, sleeping on your back reduces the chances of bacteria and other germs transferring from your pillowcase to your face. When your face isn’t squished against the pillow, you won’t be at a greater risk of developing sleep lines and wrinkles!

We hope these much-ignored skin care tips helped you! A lot of people tend to forget these essential skin care tips, but you can make sure that you follow them to keep your skin healthy, clean, and glowing.
